In the great variety of restaurants and gastronomic offer in Marbella, Portuguese cuisine, the traditional and most authentic one, was missing until now. A couple of weeks ago Andrea Simoes, José Nogueira and their sons have opened the Torre de Belém restaurant in Nueva Andalucía, in the ex-bullring space Marbella Arena, a very cozy place where the passion for theirs lands gastronomy stands out.
They decided open in Marbella after the great success achieved in Jerez de la Frontera, with the same concept, seeing on the Costa del Sol a more motivating and at, the same time, challenging potential.
On the east side of Marbella Arena, facing the sea and La Concha mountain, a large Portuguese flag flies, indicating the entrance to the Torre de Belém. The atmosphere is classic, careful in the details of tradition, both in style and in its menu, to transfer its guests to the neighboring country, with the most authentic Portuguese flavor.
His way of standing out from the fusion cuisine trends is just the opposite concept: being faithful to the typical dishes, the colors, the materials of Portugal: from the furniture, to the chairs, the cutlery, the cork on the menu, everything in the restaurant is decorated with products from Portugal. The concept is 100% Portuguese.
Traditional Portuguese food and drinks in a context very similar to a home: quiet, bright, with few tables with white tablecloths, near a piano where the Maestro and composer Domingo Díaz Rodríguez accompanies all dinners and Sunday lunches with his melodies.
Andrea and José welcome us as if we were at home, their intention is to give all their clients that familiar treatment, which is why they have preferred to have small dimensions: few tables and no shifts, in order to offer a relaxed gastronomic experience with a service whose luxury is friendliness and sweetie.
The iconic products of Portugal are protagonist in the menu: cheeses and sausages, fritters and croquettes, quiches and cheese bread among the starters, while cod in its different variants stands out in the main dishes. We start by trying the grilled version (a braz), we continue with the Zé do Pipo, which has mashed potatoes and onion and we finish with the Cod with cream, gratin in the oven.
Meat lovers can choose between the Picaña and the Angus Steak on the stone and they pairing them with a good Portuguese wine, since the wine list is also very select. Even the beer and water are from Portugal, not to mention the desserts.
Among them reigns undisputed and fully deserves it, the Pastel de Belém, deliciously achieved in its texture and flavor, but there are many more typical desserts to discover, such as almond cake, chocolate cake, “Berry Pie” or “Mimo coconut with red fruits”.
Sweet red fortified wine lovers will have their pleasure satisfied with an excellent Port.
The intention of the restaurant is changing the menu from time to time, since there are many customers who repeat the experience, the owner want to show all the Flavors of Portugal.
The location is ideal both for the views and for parking facility, a very important factor since we are just a few steps from the famous and international Puerto Banús.
