What’s your ideal “Work Style”?

One of the biggest perks of being your own boss is having the freedom to set your own schedule and, once you identify your ideal working style, it’s far easier to create an environment that works for you. Here are some classic characteristics to consider.

Night owl vs early riser
The working day was never designed to be 24 hours long but, when you’re pressured into performing outside of your comfort zone, things can play on your mind around the clock. For many of us, our most productive periods are hard-wired, so stop giving yourself a tough time if you write best at 2am and embrace what feels right for you.

Team player vs solo starter
Some people love the buzz of a busy office, whereas others prefer to plug in their headphones and focus on the task. We spend around a third of our lives at work so it goes without saying that the environment has a massive impact on well-being and quality of life. Working from home is the obvious choice for many fledgling entrepreneurs, but isolation and loneliness are common complaints. Even when we enjoy the peace and quiet most of the time, having someone to share a joke with or vent about a difficult client can be a big bonus.

Born manager vs afraid to delegate
Learning how to lead is a definite skill and delegating doesn’t come naturally to everyone. Small business owners have a difficult job to do in building a team, and the stakes are high for employing other people. Think carefully about the roles you need to fill and what personality types they suit best, but don’t get caught in the trap of doing everything on your own for too long. No one is good at every aspect of running a business and neither should you be. If you don’t have the money to employ people full-time, look at outsourcing certain elements that you prefer not to do or that fall outside of your immediate skillset. Virtual PAs, copywriters, accounting support etc. can free up a lot of time for a relatively small cost, giving you the opportunity to focus on building your business and the headspace to plan your next steps.

In Marbella there is a co-working place where you can create an environment that works for you: Our Space. Check their website for more info.
